Peace of mind is essential to a healthy body
If we believe that God created human beings in His image and likeness than it would be important to believe that our physical bodies are important to Him. All that he created was created from His heart of love. Sadly, throughout the generations many have rejected love and thereby rejected God. The affects of this rebellion has brought much heartache, disease, brokenness and disorder.
It is important to keep in mind that where there is no love there is no peace and without peace your physical body will react in a negative way. The absence of peace creates a void that is filled with stress. This life-stealer has been assaulting humanity in subtle ways in every culture on every continent since the beginning of time.
Without God there can be no personal peace. We have been conditioned to believe that with the absence of trouble we have peace. This could not be further from the truth when you consider the nature of the world on which we reside. Jealousy, comparison, envy, control, manipulation, criticism and more stir up anxiety, worry, doubt, fear and other sources of trouble.
Throughout the expanse of time, there have been countless attempts to create the perfect society where everyone shares equally. This socialist approach to life cannot work, because God is not at the center. Hence it is only in a personal relationship with God that there is any hope for personal peace.
Another important contributor to peace is learning to value/love self. Many people are fighting against their unique design and or trying to hide what they believe to be flawed. In this adversarial daily grind, peace with self, peace with God and peace with others is next to impossible. This unbalanced internal condition is not conducive to living a healthy life.
Let’s keep in mind that I am not referring to a self love that is egotistical, prideful or narcissistic in nature. Loving self in a healthy way is to find value in all aspects of your identity. To say, “I love myself” in a righteous way is to say, that you agree with God’s design for your life. From this posture you are able to express love and receive love which produces peace and harmony in your life.
Remembering the words of Jesus we find that loving God, self and others completely is essential to living a fulfilled and purposeful life. Why, because all of the law is satisfied bringing forth a sense of well being that cannot be realized by self effort.
Your physical body will be assaulted by various germs, diseases and blows to the body throughout your life time. When God created the natural body He included and immune system that is powerful to overcome these assaults and manifest healing. This system of biological structures functions at optimum levels when you are at peace with self, life, God and others.
It would do us all well to learn of the peace brought for those that would receive Him. The external pressures of life cannot contend with the inner peace His presence provides. Jesus said, “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. (John 14:27)
Trying to eliminate trouble as your effort to find peace is not how you are to spend your time. It is only in relationship to Jesus that peace of mind and heart is sustainable. Friends, family, employers and government officials will let you down, yes even betray you. You will make mistakes that lead to the temptation to sin. The vehicle, dishwasher or computer will break down. Trouble can emerge from most any area of life. Therefore, sustaining peace that keeps us healthy cannot be obtained by self effort alone.
Of course there are practical things you can do to keep stability in your life such as spending less than you make, maintaining your vehicle, balancing your checkbook, eating balanced meals, and so on. These acts of stewardship are an important part of living a life of integrity. In doing your part to live a harmonious life you will find receiving help from the Holy Spirit to be your true source of peace because He is an amazing helper!
Think about what it might feel like to have peace of mind every day of your life. What rises up inside of you, positive or negative emotions/thoughts? Think about what it might be like to have your physical body functioning at its optimal health? Too good to be true…, too hard to accomplish…, you don’t know how messed up I am… may be some of your negative thoughts! But what about, with God all things are possible…, I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength…, and other life giving statements of truth!
Let’s start to envision a future that is mentally, emotionally, spiritually and physically in harmony. What qualities would give evidence of this vision coming to pass? I Corinthians 13:4 -8 provide insight!

You might be thinking, but how is this possible in my everyday life!
First let’s answer some foundational questions…
- Do you believe that God created the heavens and earth and that He created humans in His image and likeness as recorded in Genesis 1:27?
- Do you believe that the Holy Spirit breathed the life of Jesus into Mary’s womb as recorded in Matthew 1:18?
- Do you believe that after Jesus physical death he returned to his disciples as recorded in the Gospels?
- Do you believe that Jesus sent you a helper, the Holy Spirit to assist you in your everyday life as recorded in John 14, 15 and 16?
In any question that you have doubt or questions it is important to ask for help. Please contact me or someone that you know believe lives in these truths. If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, then you are saved, born anew, awakened to God’s world! (Romans 10:9)
Please don’t stop there! Invite the Holy Spirit to be your helper, counselor, guide and friend. He is wise in every way and knows how to solve every problem. Jesus said that He needs to go to be with the Father so that he can intercede for you. Let’s go directly to the words of Jesus as recorded in John 16 to learn of this important truth about the Holy Spirit.
12 “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. 13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you.
16 “A little while, and you will see me no longer; and again a little while, and you will see me.” 17 So some of his disciples said to one another, “What is this that he says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see me, and again a little while, and you will see me’; and, ‘because I am going to the Father’?” 18 So they were saying, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We do not know what he is talking about.” 19 Jesus knew that they wanted to ask him, so he said to them, “Is this what you are asking yourselves, what I meant by saying, ‘A little while and you will not see me, and again a little while and you will see me’? 20 Truly, truly, I say to you, you will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice. You will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will turn into joy. 21 When a woman is giving birth, she has sorrow because her hour has come, but when she has delivered the baby, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. 22 So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you. 23 In that day you will ask nothing of me. Truly, truly, I say to you, whatever you ask of the Father in my name, he will give it to you. 24 Until now you have asked nothing in my name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.
25 “I have said these things to you in figures of speech. The hour is coming when I will no longer speak to you in figures of speech but will tell you plainly about the Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name, and I do not say to you that I will ask the Father on your behalf; 27 for the Father himself loves you, because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. 28 I came from the Father and have come into the world, and now I am leaving the world and going to the Father.” (ESV)
I hope by now you are better able to see that you can live in the security of God’s presence through the Holy Spirit’s involvement in your life. The revelation that God is actually with you is a game changer. Invite the Holy Spirit to lead you into all truth right now!
God did not give you a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. (I Timothy 1:7) Invite the Holy Spirit to awaken you to the power, love and a sound mind in everyday life. Surely you will find that your spirit being will be life to your physical body!
II Corinthians 5 provides some valuable insight…
For we know that when this earthly tent we live in is taken down (that is, when we die and leave this earthly body), we will have a house in heaven, an eternal body made for us by God himself and not by human hands. 2 We grow weary in our present bodies, and we long to put on our heavenly bodies like new clothing. 3 For we will put on heavenly bodies; we will not be spirits without bodies. 4 While we live in these earthly bodies, we groan and sigh, but it’s not that we want to die and get rid of these bodies that clothe us. Rather, we want to put on our new bodies so that these dying bodies will be swallowed up by life.5 God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit. (NLT)
As you can see the guarantee of the Holy Spirit’s help is emphasized in verse five. So let’s welcome him to help you find peace for the journey and joy to be your strength.
A transformed mind is a mind that is at peace and one that does not lean on its own understanding. As I stated at the beginning, it is important to keep in mind that where there is no love there is no peace and without peace your physical body will react in a negative way. The absence of peace creates a void that is filled with stress. This life-stealer has been assaulting humanity in subtle ways in every culture on every continent since the beginning of time.
Without God there can be no personal peace. With his peace you will find that your body is much healthier! Learn to love God, learn to love yourself and learn to love others and you will come into a state of well-being that will cause others to be curious.
